Being nervous before public speaking is perfectly normal! The way to fix these issues is to practice lots and lots before your big talk. This will help you be confident that you know your material and talking points. Also, if you are religious, saying a quick prayer for guidance and peace is helpful. Another tip I can imagine is if you are allowed, to take a sip of water slowly to help calm your nerves. Lastly, remember that the person that you’re debating is a person just like you! They have struggles and uncertainties, and likely are just as nervous as you are. Take a deep breath and trust that you have prepared adequately and go win your debating competitions! If you don’t win, make sure you know of things you can improve and try again! 🙂 Remember that we’re all doing the best that we can, and you just do the same and don’t give up!
