Irregular menstrual flow can be due to several causes, so it is hard to pinpoint just one.. This source has a bunch of reasons that include: forgetting to take one’s birth control, it could be irregular bleeding at the start of a pregnancy, the presence of uterine fibroids and polypses, a thyroid that isn’t working properly, an infection, stress, excessive travel and exertion, weight gain/loss
