Question: what brings about pygmies?

Pygmies are an ethnic group of people from Central Africa. They are known for being unusually short in stature.
I found a paper that tried to explain why it is that they’re short. It said “new research suggests unique changes in the Pygmy’s genome have both led to adaptations for living in the forest as well as kept them short”
