  It is said that this virus evolved from a virus called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) that affects chimpanzees and mutated to affect humans. It is hard to treat because it mutates quickly, so when scientists think they have designed a drug to affect it, the virus will mutate and then that drug won’t work anymore. It is a big challenge, and with new developing technology, scientists are making progress slowly but surely!
