      Hello Joan!

I am training in the US, so I have not had the chance to work in Kenya yet. I will say that the career of an independent scientist in the US, especially is very difficult to get, as there are more scientists than there is funding to fund all of them. To that end, there are many people who might work in other countries so that they have a larger impact.. aka they can teach more students, actively participate in the growing tech infrastructure, and overall attempt to bridge the access gap between the developed and developing worlds better.

In order to communicate one’s research publications, in addition to publishing them in a journal, one often will present them in the form of a poster or a talk at a conference. These conferences are all around the US, and world at large! For recent travels related to work I have been to conferences in San Diego and San Francisco in California, Baltimore in Maryland, and Washington DC. I hope that at some point I will have enough cool data to present at an international conference!
